For Sale By Owner

Leaving Kiawah, SC we headed to Columbia. My family lived there for a few years when I was small and at that time bought 2 acres outside of town with the intention of building a home. After many years, moving to the west coast and a divorce, I ended up with the deed. Unfortunately, the town grew the other way and the area is highlighted by a few nice homes, trailers, small auto shops and stores. One convenience store had this oddly rational sign out front (we whizzed by to fast to snap a photo).
"Beer is cheaper than gas, so drink, don't drive."
Prior to driving out to see the land, we visited the Richland County Department of Deeds for a taste of good ole' local government bureaucracy and obtained the plat for the property. I tried to do this online but couldn't get a .TIFF file out of their system. I eventually did get hard and soft copies of the plat and made friends with the clerk, Sharon Steele - who, after all was just doing her job.

We found the land and walked around. For now, I'll hold on to it but put up a "For Sale By Owner" sign just to see if I get any bites. If you know anyone who wants some land in the middle of nowheresville, South Carolina - give them my number!

After lunch at MOD Pizza which is now EVERYWHERE, we drove to Chattanooga and spent the night at a Camping World campground.
