Arnold's Country Kitchen and Hatch Show Print

The area just outside of Chattanooga is an amazingly beautiful collection of mountains and rivers. According to wikipedia it lies at the transition between the Appalachian Mountains and the Cumberland Plateau. We saw really interesting limestone layers along the the freeway. Big shelves of rock jut out of the ground at interesting angles. As a kid, I remember visitng Lookout mountain (just outside of the city) which includes cool geologic sites like Rock City and Ruby Falls.

Upon arriving in Nashville, we headed straight to Arnold's Country Kitchen, a restaurant listed on Road Food. I had the fried pork chop (because pork chops alone are just too healthy), squash, green beans, mac and cheese, a corn bread roll and to top it all off a piece of pecan pie. It was heavenly!

After lunch we fought the urge to pass out in the car in yet another southern cooking induced food coma and went to Hatch Show Print. While you might not recognize the name, you'd recognize their work as they've printed everything from music show posters to wine labels since 1879!

This place was especially cool for me as my dad was a printer and I remember visiting him at work (before everything was automated) and seeing similar stacks of lead type ready for print. You also can't beat the heady and somewhat intoxicating smell of a print shop, there's nothing like it!
