We're taking a road trip across the US and maybe Mexico and Canada. No specific destination or schedule, we're just going. This trip is very unlike most of my highly structured and planned out life. We're calling the adventure WHEN are WE. I've been working on my elevator pitch for what exactly this means. Lots of folks have said, "oh you mean where are we, right?" No, I don't. To me WHEN speaks of time and presence and decisions and limitations (real and imagined). Much of my experience and I suspect yours has been waiting for "when"; when you have the time, when you have the money, when the kids are grown, when you've lost 10 lbs, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm in no position to judge anyone's situation or descisions. Serendipitously Cole and I both have time right now. I just finished a 2 year stint at Microsoft and he's taking some time off from college. A road trip for both of us to get a fresh perspective, find new inspiration and eat really good Mexican food seemed obvious.

At this point we're 2 days from leaving. I'm tired, but that odd sort of electric tired which means that even if I laid down, it wouldn't matter. Over the last 2 weeks I've been focused on getting ready for the trip. Buying a Honda CR-V and building it out for camping. Too many visits to Home Depot and money spent on Amazon. Oddly, I've had more fun planning and building then I've had in awhile. There seems to be a real difference when you're working with your hands and building something with a very specific and practical purpose. I copied a design I found on YouTube from Kennedy Carey. Luckily he has the same model CR-V and created a detailed video that allowed me to reverse engineer it (that last part is for you Darin Webb).
